I believe this is the first time ever I seen a Bottega Veneta show without a single handbag in sight! The signature ‘Intrecciato’ technique house with Tomas Maier as head designer delivers the modern gentlemen in fitted suits, strolling in a carefree style.

I found the first 7 outfits of the collection very intriguing while, the rest of them are less interesting. This is a selection of suits with tailored shapes that plays with the colour, and shadow prints. This technique, to me, implies ideas of carefree businessmen who walk leisurely to success.

Apart from the amazing light show suit at the beginning, the rest of the show consists of mainly commercial clothes. There are lots of tight jeans, leather trousers, casual coats, and lots of fitted biker jackets, both in leather and woollen materials.

I have to say I am very disappointed with this collection, because I don’t see anything different from what is offer in the high street. One might argue that the quality of the fabric and the craftsmanship is superior to the high street, but if I have to pay for something at Bottaga’s price range, I’d rather invest my money in something more reasonable, from Paul Smith for example.

The only accessories that are worth talking about this season are the shoes, as all key products of the house, that is handbags, are absent. The shoes are a mixture of formal slip-on shoes in muted patchy colours – Persian green, Tyrian purple and Tuscan red. There are also some shoes with high heels –  just like rockers from the 1960s – in crocodile and cowhide leather (I have to say I hate them!)

This is a play safe collection for the troubled economy. The collection will do well on the shop floor, no doubt about it. Let’s hope the economic outlook starts to brighten, as we desperately need something exciting now.
